Word on the gear. A couple years ago I went to Ren Faire and tried the archery butts. They didn't provide any protective gear, and the bowstring slapped my inner arm with every damn shot. I had welts and bruises by the time I was done.
Ouch! You can see the strike pad on her arm for that purpose. You can minimize it if you rotate your arm inward so that the thick elbow joint isn't sticking out so much.
